Meet Violet Muyonga, a Sales and Customer Service Executive with KQ Cargo based in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2019, the KQ Cargo team were responsible for the safe delivery of over 23 million tonnes of perishable goods. She shares more about KQ Fresh and her role at the airline.
Millions of people across the globe have come to associate February as the month of love. What volumes of flowers do we transport during this season?
We consider the weeks between January 22nd and February 10th as our peak for flower shipments. This year, we have delivered approximately 300 tonnes to various destinations in that period alone. In 2019, we transported 4.4 million tonnes of fresh flowers.
What are some of our key destinations for flowers?
In Africa, that would be Accra, Ghana; Lubumbashi, DRC; Lusaka, Zambia; Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire; Dakar, Senegal; and Monrovia, Liberia. Outside of Africa, there is high demand in Amsterdam, London, Paris and New York City.
What enables us to deliver in the manner that we do?
As stated above, aircraft maintenance is driven by flight hours and calendar I would say our people – we have very skilled and committed team members. For example, we have staff who are trained specifically on live animal and perishable goods. You need to understand your cargo and adhere to strict global handling standards. We also offer direct flights to key destinations which gives us an edge because it means a customer’s cargo does not have to pass via a different hub. We also offer a reliable cool chain including our cold room facilities – from the time we receive a shipment to the point of delivery – which is critical for perishable items. Lastly, our customers appreciate our prompt communication.
What keeps you motivated about your work?
My customers are the heartbeat of what I do. The fact that they can give business to a competitor but choose to use our services means that I must provide excellent service to them. I also don’t take for granted the trainings we receive as KQ staff.
From your experience, what should someone aspiring to work in sales and customer services keep in mind?
It goes without saying that you must have a heart for customers and be able to put yourself in their shoes. You also need to be very patient because you will come across challenging situations! However, it is a fulfilling career path, especially when you have the trust of your valued customers. For more information click here
