What is the Environmental Compensation Programme?

The programme enables organisations to make voluntary contributions towards Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) through corporate travel agreements, conferences, events, employee travel programmes, or strategic partnerships.

Rather than offsetting emissions or funding tree planting, the programme directly allows use if Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF and provides customers with transparent reporting and documented evidence of their reduction of Scope 3 (Category 6) emissions.

How does this programme work?

Step 1- Define you business travel scope and participation level.
Step 2- Agree commercial terms and reporting requirements.
Step 3- Track contributions through Kenya Airways' traceability process.
Step 4- Select SAF contribution model aligned with your travel programme.
Step 5- Your flight is allocated Sustainable Aviation Fuel(SAF).
Step 6- Receive an Environmental Compensation Impact Statement.

A 2% SAF blend typically delivers approximately 1.6% lifecycle CO₂ emissions reduction compared to conventional jet fuel

SAF purchases are allocated using the mass balance system, ensuring transparent accounting

For every KES 1 million (~USD 8,000) contributed:
2,140 litres of SAF are uplifted
Approximately 5.9 metric tonnes of CO₂ are avoided on a lifecycle basis

For every KES 1 million (~USD 8,000) = 2,140 litres of SAF uplifted = ~5.9 metric tonnes CO₂ avoided.
Purchases are allocated under the mass balance system.
