Cecilia Sagini has always been surrounded by music. Growing up, she performed at school concerts and played instruments, specifically the piano and guitar. With a mother in the church choir and a father who played guitar, music was a constant presence in her life, and she quickly realized it was her passion.

Although Cecilia has not performed professionally in a while, she recalls the preparation rituals that helped her bring her best to the stage. She would practice as much as possible, drink warm beverages, rest, and make sure she looked her best. She believes that when you feel your best, it shows in your performance, and that energy resonates with the audience.

Some of her fondest memories come from performing on international stages in countries such as Israel, Rwanda, and South Africa. Even when audiences did not understand Swahili, they danced along and connected with the music, proving the universal language of rhythm and melody.

Like many artists, Cecilia has faced challenges navigating the professional side of music. While her creative skills were strong, breaking into the industry required additional support and guidance. Over time, she learned that there are always opportunities to overcome obstacles with persistence, mentorship, and collaboration.

Cecilia draws inspiration from everyday life, finding creativity in the hustle and bustle around her. She remains engaged in various creative communities and attends workshops for content creators across Africa, learning new techniques and connecting with fellow artists.

Her advice to aspiring singers is simple: start now, no matter the circumstances. Join communities, take classes to improve your craft, record with local producers, and perform live to overcome stage fright. Church choirs, she notes, are also excellent training grounds for many talented artists, including some of the greats like Whitney Houston.

Cecilia’s music is available on SoundCloud, YouTube, iTunes, and Spotify, and she continues to work on new projects for fans to enjoy. Her journey reminds us that passion, dedication, and persistence are key ingredients for turning talent into impact.

The big bird brings with it a mixed bag of chaos. Just before dawn, when the darkness of the night is about to start rising, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA)’s Terminal 1A can be so quiet it feels like an apocalypse happened. There are birds in the air approaching the airport in various intervals; KQ 479 from Kigali, KQ 311 from DXB, KQ 117 from AMS, KQ 535 from LOS, KQ 115 from CDG, KQ 509 from ROB.

It is 0230hours. Ngina's alarm rings loudly. She silences it as soon as she can so that she does not wake her husband and her two boys (an infant and toddler). She has an early start today with KQ600 to Mombasa. She jumps out of bed. As she heads to the bathroom a lot of planning goes in her mind.
