Strengthening Aviation Security Through Strategic Collaboration

In aviation, security is never static. It evolves with every new risk, every new route, and every new reality we face as an industry.

Last week, I had the opportunity to be part of a Risk Management Workshop facilitated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Eastern and Southern African (ESAF) Office for our Kenya Airways Security Team.

What stood out for me wasn’t just the technical depth of the sessions, but the shared mindset in the room, professionals from across Security Management and Operations coming together to challenge assumptions, exchange perspectives, and sharpen how we respond to emerging threats.

There was a strong sense of alignment around one thing: aviation security today demands more than frameworks and compliance. It calls for continuous learning, practical application, and collaboration across teams and institutions.

The sessions, led by ICAO Regional Officer James Mabala and ICAO Certified Instructor Charles Rombo, reinforced how critical it is to stay proactive, not just reacting to risks, but anticipating them.

For me, this experience was a reminder that the strength of our security systems lies in the people behind them, their readiness, their awareness, and their willingness to keep learning.

As we continue to work closely with ICAO and other partners, engagements like this play an important role in shaping how we think, how we act, and how we continue to strengthen a safe, secure, and resilient aviation environment across the region.
